Treatment Sessions

Onward and Upward!

We support and provide your pet with well-deserved pain relief, increase their mobility, and accelerate their body's unique healing process. In other words, KEEP YOU TWO DOING WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO TOGETHER, like climbing table rock for example!

"They give us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe... It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made." – Roger A. Caras

What is Microcurrent therapy?

Brief explanation of the instruments and MICROCURRENT technology:

At Mountaintop Canine, we use a unique, non-invasive therapy system called the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse. The best way to think of this treatment is as a way to jump-start your dog or pet's natural healing process.

The technology uses a very low-level electrical current, called microcurrent. This is not like a TENS unit or other electrical stimulators you might be familiar with. Instead, it's a gentle, pain-free current that is so similar to the energy your dog's own body produces that the cells immediately recognize and respond to it.

This therapy system is like having two specialized tools that work together for a more complete recovery:

  • The Electro-Acuscope focuses on the nervous system. It helps to calm nerves that are causing pain and reactivate those that are not working properly. This is key for dogs with chronic pain or neurological issues.
  • The Electro-Myopulse works on soft tissues like muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It helps to reduce swelling, relieve muscle spasms, and increase the energy (ATP) needed for cells to repair themselves. This speeds up healing from injuries and surgeries.

It's a proven method, with a history of use in both human and animal medicine for decades, and it's particularly effective for:

  • Post-Surgical Recovery: Getting your dog back on their feet faster after an operation.
  • Chronic Conditions: Managing pain and improving mobility for conditions like arthritis.
  • Injuries: Healing strains, sprains, and other soft tissue damage.

By combining this advanced technology with my hands-on experience in veterinary surgery, I offer a high-standard of care tailored to help your dog live a happier, more comfortable, and pain-free life.

For more scientific research, or an in-depth view of the instruments and therapy system, please see our Technical Information page. You can also navigate to the FDA website for more information on how each piece of equipment and technology is individually designed, tested, and approved.

Pain and mobility issues involve more than just the joint

"Dogs and cats with arthritis are painful and have mobility issues. Treatment of these pets must include attention to the tissues outside of the joint. Soft tissues like muscles and other connective tissue can become a source of pain that compounds their problem. Dr. Lindsey Fry - a veterinary pain and integrative practitioner - explains the importance of identifying compensatory disease and the role that physical medicine plays in helping these animals"

    About Mattie Stivers

Hi, I'm Mattie—a passionate veterinary professional with seven years of experience, including specialized work in orthopedic surgery and advanced wound care. As a devoted owner of six dogs, a sulcata tortoise, chickens, and many fish, I deeply understand the human-animal bond, which fuels my commitment to ensuring every animal lives pain-free. My background, honed by precision-focused dental assisting, uniquely enhances my approach to veterinary rehabilitation. In addition, I work as an emergency veterinary technician on the weekends at a busy, 24 hour ER hospital.

Today, I've founded Southern Oregon's first canine-focused Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse therapy business. Here, we offer non-invasive Acuscope and Myopulse treatments for pain management, injury recovery, and overall wellness. It's our duty to serve and treat our animal companions with compassion and the highest standard of care, because every animal deserves exceptional treatment inside and outside their veterinary hospital. I work alongside your primary veterinarian to treatment plan, and appropriately provide extremely high quality microcurrent therapy. I look forward to meeting you and your pet!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at themountaintopcanine@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

This treatment is an excellent choice for:

    • Preventative maintenance and performance enhancement, helping your dog stay active and agile. This is for dog's with no history of injury or diagnosed chronic conditions.
    • Accelerated post-operative recovery, ensuring a smoother, faster return to health after surgery. This is for pet's preparing for, or recovering from a surgery.
    • Managing chronic conditions, offering support and potentially slowing the progression of long-term issues. This is for pet's that have been diagnosed with a chronic condition, such as (but not limited to) a CCL tear, Hip Dysplasia, Spondylosis, or Osteoarthritis.

This therapy is completely non-invasive. My extensive veterinary background, combined with specialized orthopedic and anatomical knowledge, and over 100 hours of ATS canine therapist certification, ensures precise and effective treatment.

Our instruments are specially calibrated for small animal tissue, making treatments accurate and comfortable. At Mountaintop Canine, your beloved pet will receive the incredible, case-studied benefits of microcurrent therapy and have been known to relax and even fall asleep during their sessions. We believe every dog deserves access to this advanced maintenance therapy, even puppies predisposed to genetic conditions, as it can help slow disease progression.

No, we do not offer single sessions and there are no exceptions to this due to cellular physiology and the cumulative effect (how training cells to hold their appropriate charge works). Another reason behind this standard is that it is against manufacturer recommendations. We follow all state guidelines, FDA requirements, and manufacturer recommendations. This way you are sure to receive the highest quality of care, and the most optimal results for your furry friend. (*3 sessions within a 72 hour period is required to start all new patients).

Yes, we work through veterinary authorization. This means that I require referral and approval from your primary veterinarian for most cases. Veterinary referral forms can be sent to your DVM directly, or you can ask your vet if they would like forms to be kept at their office for easy reference. Referral forms are located on the "Vet Referral Form" tab. Preventative maintenance and performance optimization are two exceptions. We do not require veterinary authorization for those two types of cases.

Every treatment program is tailored to your pet's wellness and your specific goals. A consultation (via phone or email) is required before booking your first session. During this consultation, we'll gather essential information to design a projected course of therapy, which will be adjusted in subsequent sessions.

For most treatments, we require a complete medical history and a referral form from your primary veterinarian. This is not required for preventative maintenance or performance optimization.

Please bring a fresh leash to your first appointment, which will be used for all future treatments.

Important: We cannot treat pets that are pregnant or have a pacemaker. Please contact us for more information. Existing clients should refer to our supplemental forms for detailed pre- and post-treatment instructions, as well as the intake form (located in the client section).
